What Does Jesus Offer Me?March 6, 2011 Perhaps the name, Jesus, is familiar to you. Perhaps you have seen a sign or bumper sticker, etc. that said something like, "Jesus is the answer." You may know someone who is a Christian, and believes in Jesus. Perhaps someone has urged you to believe in and folow Jesus. But you may wonder, what does Jesus offer me? Why would I want to be a follower of Him? Those are very good questions. What does the Bible say? Please read Matthew 11:28-30. Here Jesus offers a beautiful invitation. He says, "Come unto me." Who is he inviting to come? "All ye that labour and are heavy laden." That is, all who are burdened with sin. Sin is a heavy burden to carry. (See Psalm 38:4; Psalm 90:7-10). The guilt of sin, the struggle to overcome sin, and the physical and emotional consequeces of sin are a heavy burden to carry. But Jesus invites you to come to him. What does Jesus promise? "I will give you rest." Jesus offers you rest from the burden of your sins. You may think that Christians, those who follow Jesus, have a hard life filled with things they must and must not do. But, Christians live a happy life that is free from most of the pain and suffering that sin causes. They have accepted the rest that Jesus promises. Yes Jesus invites the sinner to "take His yoke upon him." But he promises, "My yoke is easy, and my burden is light". The "burden" of being a Christian is far easier than the burden of being a sinner! How does one accept Jesus' invitation? Jesus says, "Learn of me." In Matthew 28:18-20, Jesus commands his Apostles to "teach all nations .... to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded..." The Bible is the Book that tells you about Jesus. It tells you the things that Jesus has commanded. It tells all that Jesus offers you. You accept His invitation by doing what it commands. We, at the Strasburg Church of Christ, would love for you to visit our services. We would also like an opportunity to assist you in your study of God's Word, the Bible.
